Engineering

A division of the Town’s Public Services Department, the Engineering Division, is committed to serving the community by supporting Town departments with design and implementation of capital improvement projects including new sidewalks, paving projects, water and sewer lines, and Town facilities.

Main Street/Statesville Avenue
(General/Powell Bill)

  • Status: Right-of-Way Phase
  • Realignment of existing intersection for improved traffic flow with new left turn lanes on the north bound and south bound legs of the intersection.
  • Construction scheduled to begin Summer 2016 and expected to last four months.
  • Estimated Cost: $325,000
  • Main Street/Statesville Avenue Concept Plan

Mill Village Sidewalk & Utilities (2014 GO Bond)

  • Construction in phases 2016 through 2018.
  • New sidewalk ( one side of the street) and curb & gutter to promote pedestrian walkability and also connectivity to the Downtown area.
  • Estimated Cost: $3,242,675
  • Replace Aging or undersized water and sewer lines.
  • Construction in phases from Spring 2016 to 2018.
  • Estimated Utility Fund Cost: $3,855,000

Mooresville School Network Sidewalk (2014 GO Bond)

  • New Sidewalk connecting Mooresville Middle School and Kistler Farm Road communities with Bellingham Park and Fieldstone/Magnolia Sidewalk Network.
  • Construction is expected to start Summer/Fall 2016 and last 10 months.
  • Estimated Cost: $1,456,500
  • Committed CMAQ Funding: $343,000
  • Requested Additional CMAQ Funding: $801,996
  • Total Bonded Cost: $654,504
  • Mooresville School Network Sidewalk Concept Plan
NC 115/Faith Road Intersection Improvements (2014 GO Bond)

  • Status: Preparing for right-of-way and utility coordination phase.
  • Realignment of existing intersection for improved traffic flow along with new left turn lanes on all legs of the intersection.
  • Construction is expected to start Spring 2017 and last 12 months.
  • Estimated Cost: $3,474,720
  • Committed CMAQ Funding: $1,133,625
  • Request to be made for supplemental Federal funding.
  • Developer's Portion: $253,000
  • Total Bonded Cost: $2,088,095

NC 150/NC 115 Intersection Improvements (2014 GO Bond)

  • Status: Right-of-Way Phase
  • New right turn lanes on the west bound and south bound legs of the intersection.
  • Construction is expected to start Winter 2016 and last 12 months.
  • Estimated Project Cost: $1,953,283
  • Committed CMAQ Funding: $1,398,782

NC 150/NC 801 Intersection Improvements (2014 GO Bond)

  • New left lanes on all legs of the intersection.
  • Construction is expected to begin Summer 2017 and last nine months.

Williamson Road Widening

(2014 GO Bond)

  • Coordinating with NCDOT to expedite full widening of section between Brawley School Road and NC 150. This reduces the construction duration and eliminates costs to the Town.

West McLelland Avenue Improvements

  • Status: Under Design
  • Complete road reconstruction including sidewalk along West McLelland from Plaza Drive to Broad Street.
  • Construction to start Fall 2017.
  • Estimated Cost: $3,60,198.75

West Wilson Avenue Improvements

  • Status: Under Design
  • New curb and pedestrian path including pedestrian bridge along West Wilson Avenue from NC 21 to Broad Street.
  • Construction to start Fall 2018.
  • Estimated Cost: $1,062,410.25
Charles Mack Citizen Center Bathroom Renovation

  • Updating all fixtures, floors, etc. First major renovation of building sine its opening in 1995.
  • Construction started May 5, 2017
  • Estimated Cost: $167, 067.99
Phase 1 Raw Water Line (Utility Fund)

  • Installation of 36" ductile iron raw water line from the Town's intake on the lake just past Perth Road to Winslow Bay subdivision, where it will tie into existing raw water line system.
  • Contractor has installed 7,000 linear feet of the 9,000 linear feet for this part of the project. Most of the work is complete in the Water Oak subdivision, and are working with property owners to have all services restored.
  • Estimated Cost: $3,314,760
  • Williamson Road Concept Plan
Liberty Park Renovation

  • Move toward a passive and event focused park with a new amphitheater and connectivity to Church Street.
  • Contingent on sale of property, and then on demolition of property.
  • Estimated Cost: $121,000 (Design Only)
Selma Burke Center Renovation & Expansion

  • New multi-purpose building, playground, walking trail, open space and parking lot. Also main building and gym floor renovations.
  • Contingent on PARTF award notification.Grant application submitted in early Summer 2017, and notice is expected by August 30, 2017.
  • Estimated Cost: $321,150 (Design Only)
Rocky River Outfall

  • Gravity sewer from NC Highway 3 at Mooresville Intermediate School to Linwood Farms.
  • Design is complete, and easement acquisition is underway.
  • Estimated Cost: $2,837,400
Hickory Drive Sidewalk

  • New sidewalk along Hickory Drive connecting Mooresville High School with Edgemoor Park.
  • Design is complete. Anticipate bidding in coordination with high school improvements and updates.
  • Estimated Cost: $205,320

North Main Street Pedestrian Safety Zones Project

  • Add landscape islands in downtown area of North Main Street, and at to intersection of  Moore Avenue/North Main Street.
  • Design is complete, and construction scheduled to begin September 11. Work is expected to last no more than 90 days.
