[ARCHIVED] Mooresville Public Library Teen/Adult Services programs for the Month of May.

Friends of the Library Used Book Sale:

The Friends of the Mooresville Public Library Used Book Sale will take place over three days, (Thursday, May 2, 5:00PM-8:00PM), (Friday, May 3, 11:00AM-5:00PM), and (Saturday, May 4, 10:30AM-2:00PM), downstairs in the youth services community room. Thousands of paperback and hardback books will be available for sale at $1-$2, with coffee table books available for $5. Select from board and picture books for young children, and novels and non-fiction books for teens and adults. Its a great opportunity to begin a child's library or stock up for your Summer Reading. Don't forget to bring your own bag. The library collects donations throughout the year, and books they cannot use are given to the friends for their used book sale. Proceeds from the sale are used to support library programming. Friends of the Library, Mooresville members will receive $5 off of a purchase of $10. This one-time, per membership discount will be given at checkout (no coupon is required). Ask the cashier for your discount. Learning Spanish or English and want to meet others who are learning too? Join us to practice your language skills in a relaxed, conversation-style meetup. This program will take place in the Selma Burke Room, located on the library's main floor.


Mindful Mondays:

(Monday, May 6 from 11:00AM-12:00PM).

Join us for free meditation sessions at your library. Everyone is welcome. This program will take place in the Selma Burke Room, located on the library's main floor.


American Red Cross Blood Drive:

(Thursday, May 9 from 2:30PM-7:00PM).

to schedule your time to donate. Donate blood and receive a $5 Amazon digital gift card and be entered into a drawing for a chance to win tickets to Carowinds. This program will take place in the Selma Burke Room, located on the library's main floor.

A Quest for Extraterrestrial Truth from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to Outer Space:

(Saturday, May 11 from 1:00PM-3:00PM).

Join us at the Mooresville Public Library to hear Author Raymond Szymanski discuss his latest books and research on alien and UFO close encounters, as well as his own close encounters with astronauts John Glenn and Neil Armstrong in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. This program will take place in the Selma Burke Room, located on the library's main floor.

YA Anonymous Book Club:

MPL's Non-Fiction Book Club:

(Wednesday, May 22 from 10:00AM-12:00PM). Registration is required.

Military Cemeteries in Europe:

(Thursday, May 23 from 6:00PM-8:00PM).

As we prepare to remember those who have served our country, join Dr. Adell for a special presentation. This program will take place in the Selma Burke Room, located on the library's main floor.

Create and Learn:

(Tuesday, May 28 from 10:00AM-12:00PM).

This program is targeted at adults with special needs/learning disabilities. Come have fun and make new friends while exploring different creative activities. A different activity is offered each month. Attend this month and fly into Spring by making a butterfly out of yarn, beads, and pipe cleaners. This program will take place in the Selma Burke Room, located on the library's main floor.


French Conversation Group:

(Tuesday, May 28 from 6:30PM-8:00PM).

Do you already speak French but would like to be able to practice and meet others interested in speaking French and French culture? Join us in the Selma Burke Room, located on the library's main floor for our French conversation group.


Snacks and a Movie:

(Thursday, May 30 from 1:00PM-3:00PM).

Join us for the newly released movie, The Upside, and a snack. This program will take place in the Selma Burke Room, located on the library's main floor.

Mooresville Library Knitting Group:

(Thursday, May 2 and Thursday, May 16 from 2:00PM-4:00PM).

Trade patterns and tips with others who love knitting. Bring your current project with you. All skill levels welcome, from beginners to experts. This program will take place in the Selma Burke Room, located on the library's main floor.


Coffee and Coloring:

(Tuesdays, 5/7, 5/14, 5/21, and 5/28 from 2:00PM-3:30PM).

Join us for a hot drink, adult coloring, and conversation. Let off some stress by exploring your creative side and coloring. Enjoy relaxing activity, coffee, and conversation. Come unwind from your busy day, and enjoy coffee, coloring, and camaraderie. This program will take place in the Selma Burke Room, located on the library's main floor. Supplies are provided, but feel free to bring your own.


Special Collections Programs:


Genealogy Essentials:

(Wednesday, May 8 from 1:00PM-4:00PM).

Join us for a series of classes designed to help you with your family history research. The classes will initially be tailored to beginners, but will increase in complexity and detail as we proceed throughout the year. The first hour or so of each class will consist of a presentation with time for questions and answers throughout. After each class, we will have more time for more individualized attention and/or skill practice for those who desire it. This program is entitled Genealogy Essentials: Tracking Your Immigrant Ancestors. Join us for tips on finding and using passenger lists and other immigration records to explore your family history. Bring your own laptop or borrow one of ours. Kelly Mustian holds a professional certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University and has graciously volunteered to help with these programs. Basic Book Repair:

(Wednesday, May 15 from 10:00AM-12:00PM).

Come and join us to learn the basics of book repair such as how to re-glue pages, repair a broken spine, and more. Books and supplies will be provided. This program will take place in the Selma Burke Room, located on the library's main floor. 


Teen Services Programs:


Comic Book Day:

(Saturday, May 4 from 10:00AM-1:00PM).

Teens are invited to the Mooresville Public Library this Saturday, May 4 from 10:00AM-1:00PM to pick up a free comic book of your choice while supplies last. This program will take place in the young adult area, located on the library's main floor. Questions?
