Captain Gerald Childress


Captain Childress joined the Mooresville Police Department (MPD) in 2005 after serving with the Huntersville Police Department since 1996. Upon joining MPD, Childress was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2007 and Captain in 2011.

Childress earned an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate in 2003 from the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission and holds a General Instructor Certification through the North Carolina Department of Justice. He serves as an instructor for the Basic Law Enforcement Training program at Mitchell Community College and assists with in-service training at MPD. Also, Childress holds a Special Deputation Appointment through the United States Marshals Service to conduct cyber crime investigations supporting a federal task force.

Childress earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Lenoir Rhyne University in 1994 and a Master of Justice Administration degree from Methodist University in 2010.

Childress is a member of the North Carolina Homicide Investigators Association, the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force sponsored by the State Bureau of Investigation, and the North Carolina Cyber Crimes Task Force sponsored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
