Honor Guard

The Mooresville Fire & Rescue Honor Guard represents the department with honor and dignity by paying tribute to the causes most precious to the hearts of firefighters and their families. Each year, we are reminded of the inherent risks involved in the fire service by the loss of fallen firefighters in the line of duty. Many of our brothers and sisters make the ultimate sacrifice for a job that is built upon saving lives and protecting our communities.

Since 2004, the Honor Guard has served the family, friends and fellow firefighters of those fallen by performing honors and rituals that have been a part of our profession for more than 200 years –“Amazing Grace” playing through bagpipes, the ringing of the bell, the folding of the American flag, and the playing of “Taps.”

In addition to local ceremonies, the Honor Guard has represented the Mooresville Fire & Rescue at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Park in Emmitsburg, Maryland, the North Carolina Fallen Firefighter’s Memorial in Raleigh, North Carolina and a memorial service for two firefighters from the Salisbury Fire Department who died in a warehouse fire in 2008.

The Honor Guard also participates in local sporting and social events. Serving as guardian of the colors, the Honor Guard presents the nation’s flag, state flag, and fire department flag to show respect for American freedoms and to honor to those who serve to protect them. The Honor Guard has presented colors at games of the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Bobcats and Mooresville High School Blue Devils, as well as the annual Mooresville Christmas Parade.
