C Squad - Captain Cooke


Captain Joseph Cooke supervises “C” Squad in the Mooresville Police Department’s (MPD) Patrol Division. He began his career with the MPD in 2001 as a patrol officer. In 2004, Cooke was promoted to Master Patrol Officer and Field Training Officer. He transferred to the department’s Criminal Investigations Unit to work as a detective and was promoted to Sergeant in 2006 and to Lieutenant in 2007. In 2009, Cooke was promoted to his current rank of Captain and assigned to the Patrol Division. He is the Assistant Team Leader for the department’s Special Response Team.

Cooke holds instructor certifications in the areas of General Instructor and Specialized Firearms through the North Carolina Department of Justice. He is a basic instructor for OC aerosol projectors, specialty impact munitions, distraction devices and chemical munitions. Cooke instructs various Basic Law Enforcement Training courses at Mitchell Community College and is an instructor in the Police Department’s in-service training program.

Cooke earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Western Carolina University in 1998 and completed additional undergraduate studies in Business Administration and Law. In 2007, Cooke earned his Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate through the North Carolina Department of Justice.

Cooke is a board member for the Mooresville-South Iredell Crime Stoppers and a member of the North Carolina Police Executives Association, North Carolina Homicide Investigator’s Association, International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators, and the Fraternal Order of Police.
