Records & Communications - Captain Burks
Captain Adrian Burks supervises the Records & Communications Divisions. He began his career as a patrol officer with the MPD in 1996 after serving with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department for five years. After being promoted to Sergeant in 1999, Burks began supervising one of the department’s patrol shifts. Burks also supervised the Records & Communications Division. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2001 and to Captain in 2007.
Burks holds General Instructor certification through the North Carolina Department of Justice and is active in the Basic Law Enforcement Training program at Mitchell Community College. He is an instructor in the department’s in-service training program and instructs officers in the use of the ASP police baton.
Burks earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice Technology from Mitchell Community College in 2002 and an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate through the North Carolina Department of Justice in 2003. He completed additional undergraduate coursework at Western Carolina University and and the University of Louisville (Kentucky). He is a 2007 graduate of the 117th Administrative Officers Course through the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville.
A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Burks is a member of the Iredell County Marine Corps League and has served as Commandant. He is also a member of the North Carolina Police Executives Association.
